Day 1: Amboise - Chenonceaux

24km

From Amboise, this cycling stage takes you to Chenonceaux through the forest and along the banks of the Cher. You cycle on paths and beautiful shaded cycle paths.

In Chenonceaux, let yourself be seduced by the elegance of this castle with its famous gallery bridge which was occupied in turn by Diane de Poitiers, Catherine de Medici but also Louise de Lorraine whose funereal decor of the room will not fail to surprise you …

The French gardens are remarkable.

Optional: Château de Chenonceau (included in the Chateaux Package)

Self-guided visit of the castle and its gardens.

Day 2: Chenonceaux - Chaumont-sur-Loire (or Mosnes)

26 km or 35 km

For this second day of cycling, head for Chaumont-sur-Loire via small forest roads separating the banks of the Cher and the Loire.

With its fairytale castle and its park overlooking the Loire, the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire is an essential stop on your journey. Here you again encounter the fate of Catherine de Medici and her rival Diane de Poitiers. In the park, the unmissable International Garden Festival is held every year: a world of originality and poetry through the plant works of around thirty artists from all over the world.

Option: Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire (included in the Chateaux Package)

Free visit of the castle, the park and the international garden festival.

Day 3: Chaumont-sur-Loire (or Mosnes) - Amboise

Canoe or 22 km bike

To reach Amboise, you have two options: continue your journey by bike or swap your two-wheeler for a canoe.

  • By canoe: after cycling, get on your paddles! Sail on the Loire, which is often presented as the last wild river in Europe. A unique and special proximity to the river to discover and observe the Loire's fauna and flora at your own pace, taking the time to land on an island or a wild bank for a little rest.

A change of scenery and tranquility guaranteed, this experience is a real Trip à Vélo favorite!

Landing at Amboise on the Ile d’Or.

Good to know: the canoeing activity is accessible from 6 years old and it is compulsory to know how to swim.

  • By bike: between Chaumont-sur-Loire and Amboise you alternate between the cycle paths along the Loire and the small roads of the wine hills of the AOC Touraine-Amboise.

A few pedal strokes from the city center, you can reach the Chanteloup pagoda, the Royal Domain of Château-Gaillard or, to the delight of children, the mini-castle park.

Amboise, a lively little medieval town that exudes holiday spirit, awaits you for a wonderful end to the day by the river and at the foot of its castle.

Option: Château d’Amboise and Clos Lucé (included in the Chateaux Package)

Self-guided tours of the Royal Château d'Amboise and Clos Lucé

Day 4: Amboise

Amboise promises a day full of discoveries. Here, History is omnipresent. With its royal castle overlooking the Loire, the city is also home to the final resting place and burial place of Leonardo da Vinci. Whether you are a wine lover or not, a visit to the cellars to discover the work of winegrowers and the history of Loire wines is worth the detour.
