Day 1: Blois

Arrival in Blois. Bike-free day. Take advantage of this moment to stroll through the historic districts, from the banks of the Loire to the panoramic terraces of the Bishop's Gardens. Don't miss a visit to the Royal Castle and, at nightfall, let yourself be enchanted by the splendid sound and light show in the courtyard of the castle.

Day 2: Blois - Chambord - Cheverny - Blois

40km - 52km - 67km

From Blois, following the cycle path that runs alongside the Loire, you reach the Loire village of Saint-Dyé. Then, head towards the Domain of Chambord, with its forest and its castle, a masterpiece of the Renaissance. Take time to visit its many rooms and climb the famous double-revolution staircase leading to the superb roof terraces.
You return to Blois by picturesque roads crossing the AOC Cheverny vineyards, fields and meadows.
Two extensions are possible: a detour through the Sologne forest and through the Cheverny Castle.

Day 3: Blois - Amboise

Follow an itinerary of small country roads and shaded cycle paths along the Loire à Vélo. Along the way, take time to visit the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire. The castle overlooking the Loire harmoniously combines fortified and Renaissance architecture. In its park takes place every year the International Garden Festival where around thirty artists present poetic, original and unexpected landscape creations. Not to be missed!
After this stop, continue your cycle route towards Amboise.
The Royal Castle and the Clos Lucé Manor, which was the last home of Leonardo da Vinci, bear witness to the city's rich past. The medieval streets, small shops, wine cellars and numerous restaurants complete the charm of this small town of character.

Day 4: Amboise - Chenonceaux - Tours

Start the day by cycling to Chenonceaux and its magnificent Renaissance Château. From the banks of the Loire to the Amboise forest, crossing fields and vineyards, you reach the banks of the Cher. As you approach Chenonceau, let yourself be amazed by the breathtaking view of the castle and its famous gallery bridge.
The ride continues to Tours via the cycle path along the Cher.
In Tours, stroll through the historic districts, discover the St Gatien cathedral, take a sit at one of the many terraces on Place Plumereau to admire the half-timbered houses, taste the regional specialties, Sainte Maure de Touraine, rillettes and rillons or nougat from Tours.

Day 5: Tours - Langeais - Azay-le-Rideau

The cycling adventure continues for several kilometers on a cycle path along the Cher. You'll have the opportunity to observe the toues cabanées, traditional boats of the Loire navy. On the way you cross the charming village of Savonnières then Villandry, its castle with its remarkable gardens and its famous Ornamental Vegetable Garden. Continue the route with a loop along the banks of the Loire and the former Cher riverbed, passing through Langeais, then end the stage on quiet country roads to Azay-le-Rideau, a small town famous for its elegant castle.

Day 6: Azay-le-Rideau - Chinon - Saumur

71 km

Follow the banks of the Indre river to Bréhémont, a former Loire port with monumental quays, then cycle along the Loire embankments to Ussé and its castle, inspiring that of "Sleeping Beauty". In Chinon, discover the Royal Fortress and the medieval streets of the city. After a break, get back on your bike and continue the stage through the Véron bocage, a protected natural area, then follow the Loire to explore the beautiful villages of Candes-Saint-Martin and Montsoreau, before crossing the Saumur Champigny vineyard and the troglodytes particularly notable here.

Day 7: Saumur - Angers

Get on your bike for one last stage. Leave Saumur along the banks of the Loire and pass in front of the cellars of the great wine houses of Saumur.Then, pedal along the river on quiet little roads dotted with a succession of charming villages with their beautiful churches, their tuffeau houses and their small ports where the traditional boats of the Loire navy anchor. A spectacular cycling route!

At the gates of Angers, two options :
• Cross the chain ferry of the Authion river, and enter the Slate Quarries Park (parc des Ardoisières).The site of this former slate quarry, now returned to nature, offers an exceptional and unusual setting for the last few kilometres of cycling of the day.
• Or continue along the banks of the Loire for a ride mainly on a cycle path, punctuated by charming gardens overlooking the river, small villages and meadows. In Bouchemaine admire the beautiful bourgeois houses on the waterfront before continuing on the cycle path along the Maine.

Spectacular arrival in Angers at the foot of the massive fortress, marking the end of the journey.

Day 8: Angers

Bike free-day. End of the trip in Angers after breakfast.
Take advantage of this last day to visit the old city of the dukes of Anjou by walking through its historic and dynamic center. Don't miss the Castle which houses the famous Apocalypse Tapestry, a treasure from the Middle Ages.

How to get to Blois?

By train :

  • From Paris Austerlitz TER station direct (approximately 1:30 a.m.) or with connection to Orléans (approximately 2:00 a.m.)
  • From Paris Montparnasse station by TGV to Saint Pierre des Corps then by TER to Blois (approximately 2h00)

Blois Chambord train station is located 500 meters from the castle.

By car :

  • From Paris 1:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. via the A10 motorway (Paris-Orléans-Bordeaux) exit no. 17 in Blois
  • From Lyon – Exit n°14 on the A85 motorway at Romorantin (30 minutes south of Blois)

Where to park in Blois?

You can park in the Stationeo underground car parks (7-day package around €35). You can pay upon arrival in the car park, so you can come and go as many times as you like. The Château car park is ideally located in the heart of Blois and at the foot of the château. The Stationeo underground car parks have charging stations for electric vehicles.

Your first day does not include a bike excursion. You arrive at your convenience and before the reception of your accommodation closes.

Cycle tours

  • The bikes

    We work with cycle professionals whose comfortable and robust bikes are renewed, maintained and serviced regularly. Each bike is equipped with a handlebar bag, a rear bag (15 or 20 liters) and a helmet. We provide smartphone support and repair kit per reservation. We provide breakdown assistance on all our rental bikes.

    Your stay includes the rental of a VTC (all-road bike) adapted to your size or that of your child.

    You have the option of opting for a electric bike. With an average range of 80 kilometers, the electric bike allows you to enjoy each stage with ease, whatever the distance and elevation. Note that this type of bike requires a minimum height of 1m55 and maximum of 1m90. 

    For children, we offer a wide range of solutions depending on their age: child seat, child trailer, follower bike, follow-me system.

    The terms and conditions for collecting and returning your bike are communicated in the travel diary.

    You can also come with your own bike. Please note that in this case, you will not be able to benefit from breakdown assistance, will not be able to rent accessories and the possible repatriation of your bike to the starting point will have to be organized by you yourself.

  • Transferring luggage from one stage to another

    If you have requested baggage transfer or if the service is already included in your package, you are asked to drop it off each morning at the reception of your accommodation, before 9:00 a.m. They are delivered to you during the day, before 6:00 p.m., to your next accommodation.

  • The travel diary

    Before your departure, you will receive a travel diary containing all the information useful to your stay:

    • The detailed program of your trip, day by day (meeting time and address on the first day, accommodation details, useful addresses, points of interest, etc.).
    • Connection to our GPS application during your trip (step-by-step route, points of interest and practical information).
    • Exchange vouchers.
    • Tourist information and advice for cycling with complete peace of mind.
    • A support number.
  • What to do with your bike at the end of your stay?

    We organize the repatriation of all bicycles rented with Trip à Vélo during our roaming stays. For loop or star stays, the bikes are returned by you to partner establishments. In all cases, the drop-off address will be communicated to you in the travel diary.

    If you came with your own bike, any repatriation must be organized by you. Regional TERs accept bicycles on board (see the conditions on the SNCF website: www.sncf.com ).

  • How do I get back to the starting city?

    If you have to return to the city of departure, the return must be organized by you. 

    By train: numerous TER trains serve the cities of Orléans, Blois, Onzain, Amboise, Tours and Saumur at a high daily frequency during the season. You can already consult the SNCF website: www.sncf.com. You will also find more information on timetables in your travel diary.
